THIS WEEK-Daz

On the bike

A couple of rides this week.  Both almost culminating in me puking.

First ride. Up Alpe D’huez on the BKOOL virtual simulator.  Quite a few bends on that eh? Got dizzy cycling in circles in ma man cave!!! Almost fell into the wardrobe at one point . I wonder if I did? would i come oot o it a cyclist? Still faking it till I make it(there) though.

The second ride was suffering in the pissing rain on a cold Saturday morning afternoon, with a belter of  hangover. ( I had tae pick up my van at Croy train station. 17 miles away.). All seemed liked a great plan the day before!!

Listening to

Sometimes life serves you lemons.  This weeks been a doozy for  a mate in particular.  So when the going gets tough, the tough don’t listen tae Billy Ocean.  They listen tae Daft Punk . A sure fire pik you up/pik me up.  This medley of choons taking from their amazing ALIVE album is the perfect big finger to the little C.  SO for my Brotha fae another motha.  These two are for you. Lets f*****g smash it.!

This album should come wi a DO NOT LISTEN TO WHILST DRIVING WARNING. Unless your vehicle is on cruise control, you’ll find yir internal music governor will have your right foot laying heavily on the accelerator pedal. BEWARE!

TRACK 4: Around the world/harder better faster stronger.  Hairs on the back of the neck material at 3:03

TRACK 13: Human after all medley.    Turn it up and wait for the drop at 5:25 into the song

Reading

Ernest Hemingways – A Moveable Feast.  It’s a little beauty and a lot more accessible than some of his more hefty tomes. I have read this at least 3 times now.  Never far away fae  from my pocket, pillow or bag on trips.

Memoir of a young Hemingway cutting his journalistic teeth in Paris in 1920’s. It references Hemingways love for cycling in the ‘End of avocation’.

“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.”

Ernest Hemingway

I love his ability to make you feel like you are right there; seeing hearing, feeling and smelling, what he is.  In this book it’s Paris. Direct, effortless, simple and addictive prose.

Drinking

Turmerlicious.

Been an advocate of drinking Turmeric tea or popping the pills for a while know.   A powerful natural anti inflammatory and strong anti oxidant. (If you want tae read all health benefits of Turmeric click HERE.)  So when this little package in a hot chocolate concoction was winking at me from a shelf in Holland and Barret on Friday, I had tae give it a burl.  It’s a blend of turmeric, cocao, black pepper ( to aid absorption) and  Coconut.  It’s surprisingly quafable( I tried the CHOCO flavour)+ the added kicker.  It’s pretty gid  if not, great for you.  Available in three flavours. All are dairy free.

Watching

Our mate Sam Smith( not the singer) is currently in Columbia honing his paragliding skills(whilst accidentally landing in drug lords estates)  Sent me this amazing video the night before he went .  I can see why he has got hooked. If you are into any kind of movie making then you’ll love the cinematography on this.  Very clever and superbly done.  The sound tracks matches the story and scenes perfectly.
